Biography

“BORNEO” Bill Gregory (Lieutenant Colonel, USAF, Retired) is a pilot and a former NASA Astronaut. He flew as the pilot of STS-67

After graduation from the US Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Sciences [1979], he received a Guggenheim Fellowship allowing him to earn a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Columbia University [1980], and later added an MS in Business Management from Troy University [1984]. He served as an operational fighter pilot in the F-111 and also as an instructor pilot prior to attending the USAF Test Pilot School. Upon graduation [1987], Gregory served as a Test Pilot at Edwards Air Force Base, largely flying the F-15, A-7 and F-4 aircraft (all models of each).

Selected as an Astronaut in 1990, in addition to his spaceflight, Gregory worked in the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory (SAIL), as Astronaut Support Personnel at Kennedy Space Center, CAPCOM in the Mission contro Center, Spacecraft Operations Branch chief, as well as other various duties at NASA.

In 1995, Gregory served as the pilot on STS- 67, an astronomical research mission that included 7 crew-members. He was responsible for executing over 200 flawless maneuvers by the shuttle to acquire target galaxies, some 130 million light years away. This flight established a new record of 16 days, 15 hours, 8 minutes and 46 seconds of flight.

After retiring from the Air Force, in his post-NASA career, Gregory went to work for Honeywell where he worked on the ORION Crew Exploration Vehicle before becoming the Vice President of Business Development at Qwaltec, Inc.
