Biography
Astronaut Michael “Bueno” Good (Col, USAF, Ret.) is a former Air Force (AF) fighter/test Weapon Systems Officer, aerospace engineer, and NASA astronaut.
Good is a distinguished AF Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) graduate from the University of Notre Dame. While in the AF, he flew the F-111 in support of NATO and Operation Desert Shield. As an AF Test Pilot School graduate, he conducted flight and weapons testing of the B-2 Stealth Bomber and multiple variants of the F-15. He has logged over 3,000 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft.
Selected as a NASA Astronaut in 2000, Good served as mission specialist and robotic arm operator on STS-125 which was the fifth and final servicing mission of the Hubble Space Telescope. Good performed two spacewalks to refurbish the telescope with new or rejuvenated scientific instruments, new batteries, and new gyroscopes. Good also served as mission specialist on STS-132, the penultimate flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis, to deliver an Integrated Cargo Carrier and a Russian-built Mini Research Module to the International Space Station (ISS). During 7 days of docked operations Good performed two spacewalks to replace batteries on the ISS P6 Truss and retrieve a power data grapple fixture for installation at a later date.
After completing two Space Shuttle missions, he served for two years as NASA Liaison to Air Force Space Command in Colorado Springs. Following his return to NASA Johnson Space Center, Good served as Assistant Program Manager in the Commercial Crew Program until he retired from NASA in May 2019.
Following his NASA service, Good transitioned to commercial space at Blue Origin in Kent, Washington. He is currently serving as Director, Crew Integration supporting various human spaceflight programs.
